My Story

Storms have always fascinated me.  As a kid I'd be on the front porch watching as storms rolled in.  Then I'd have to move to the big picture window when the rain starting getting me wet on the porch.  After my first year in college, and deciding that engineering wasn't quite for me, I spent a year taking all sorts of different classes.  One class was a weather forecasting class.  I instantly loved it.  At the time I was going to the local community college, the College of DuPage in Glenn Elyn, IL, which happened to have an amazing meteorology program.  It was the only 2 year college in the nation that takes students on trips to the central plains to learn about storms, and get to see them up close and personal.

After my first trip with the college in 2001, and seeing my first tornado in North Dakota, I needed a camera.  I also wanted to photograph lightning.  So I got an Olympus SLR.  Lightning photography with a film camera is tough.  You're not sure of your exposures till you get the film exposed and you may waste rolls of film for a couple decent shots.

In 2004 I got my first digital camera.   This allowed me to take many more photos then I ever could before.  I was starting to get hooked.  In 2008 I got a DSLR and really started learning how to use my camera to get better photos.  Over the years my photos have expanded from just weather to many other subjects.  I love photographing anything that shows action and movement, especially motorsports.  But lightning is still my favorite subject.  It can be powerful, majestic, and peaceful all at the same time.

Having moved to the high plains of eastern New Mexico in 2007, I have had the opportunity to see some amazing scenes.  From sunrises/sunsets, to thunderstorms, or just treeless plains filled with memories of years gone by.

I continue to learn and hone my photography skills every year.  Taking pictures of whatever mother nature throws at me...
